Classic Helicopter’s flight programs are approved by the Washington State Higher Education Coordinating Board’s State Approving Agency (HECB/SAA) for the enrollment of those eligible to receive educational benefits under Title 38 and Title 10 U.S.C.
Veteran students using their VA education benefits to enroll in Classic Helicopter courses must be seeking training for the purpose of employment in the industry. VA education benefits may not be used for ancillary, avocational, or recreational flight training.
A veteran must hold at least a Private Pilot Helicopter Certificate or a Commercial Airplane Certificate and a Second Class Medical Certificate. VA funding is applicable towards the Part 141 Commercial Pilot, Flight Instructor, Instrument Rating, Commercial Pilot Additional Rating and Instrument Pilot Additional Rating Courses, all helicopter-specific. A veteran student may only enroll in one flight training course at a time, and the courses must be taken in sequential order with the Commercial Pilot course completed first; however, the only time a VA beneficiary may receive benefits for a concurrent enrollment in vocational flight training is when the student is pursuing the Commercial Pilot Certification and Instrument Rating Courses.
Classic Helicopter’s required standard for the minimum number of flight and ground instruction hours per stage, exceeds the minimum number of hours required by the FAA. If a student fails to meet the minimum number of hours per stage, the student will be dismissed from the program.
Any veteran wishing to use their education benefits to attend Classic Helicopter’s flight school should meet with Classic Helicopter’s Certifying Official. VA forms can be completed and mailed from the Classic Helicopter facility with the Certifying Official’s assistance. The veteran is responsible to pay for training up front. For refund, VA students will be reimbursed per 38CFR§21.4255. The VA will reimburse an eligible veteran, service member, or reservists for dual and solo flight training, ground instruction, and preflight briefings and postflight critiques at the rate of 60 percent. On the first day of the following month, the Certifying Official completes, and mails VA Form 22- 6553c (Monthly Certification of Flight Training). FAA Written and Practical Exam fees are now subject to VA reimbursement. Please contact the VA Certifying Official for more information.
